When you register at the original front desk in the hotel lobby, you immediately begin to get a feeling for the stories and legends that have become part of parcel of this historic hotel over the last 109 years…

…the cook whose buttermilk pancakes were legendary, the blind bachelor who once called the hotel home, the bartender whose generous Bloody Marys are still a part of local history…and a ghost.

Wilder Memorial Museum

The Wilder Memorial Museum is one of Northeast Iowa's greatest treasures. Containing artifacts which rival those found in much larger communities, our visitors are astounded in the vast size, and quality, of our collections. During your visit you will find military items dating to the Revolutionary War, Victorian art glass and furniture, including a collection of forty hanging lamps, and correspondence from well known individuals such as Lyndon Johnson, Will Rogers Jr. and Helen Keller. An amazing collection of Meissen and Dresden porcelain as well as a large exhibit of Impressionist paintings by local artist Myrwyn Eaton make this museum worthy of many return visits.
